How to make the most of your tiny NYC space without breaking the bank.
1. Wall Shelves
When you don’t have room for a coffee table or desk to store your favorite knickknacks and decorations, literally take it to the next level. Wall space is your friend when it comes to storing those special keepsakes and photos of your loved ones. Not only does it look sophisticated, it also adds dimension to your shoebox of a room.

I found these smaller wall shelves during a trip to At Home.
2. Bed Risers
One of the best storage spaces in a NYC apartment is under your bed. I keep suitcases, seasonal clothing, and even my printer under my bed that is semi-lofted on wooden bed risers. You might feel like a kid trying to clean their room in a rush, but your bed takes up so much floor space in your room that you have to take advantage of the space underneath.
3. Storage Ottomans

If you’re lucky enough to have a living room in New York City, you’ll definitely want to invest in an ottoman that has inside storage. Not only can this be a makeshift seat for any guests you're hosting, but it is also a great place to store other necessities. Blankets, scarves, hats, and other winter gear you’re going to need will fit perfectly into this compact seat.
Websites like Amazon, IKEA, and Wayfair have tons of ottoman options. This one is from Wayfair.
4. Tall + Thin Shelves
The smartest way to save space in NYC is to buy furniture that has more height than width. My roommates and I sorted through Facebook Marketplace and found two shelves that are tall and thin. The height gives you more shelves to use without taking up much floor surface area. Our living room wouldn’t have come together without them.

Our lovely $15 Facebook Marketplace purchase.
Audrey, how do I find all of this stuff?
Well, I’m glad you asked! My roommates and I spent a TOTAL of $450 on all of our living room furniture thanks to Facebook Marketplace and the Stooping NYC Instagram account. If you’re ready to dedicate your time to digging through FB Marketplace then you will find what you’re looking for.
Hope these tips can help you save space and money like they did for me!
